The Tien Giang plant introduces four no-added-sugar dried fruits, mango, jackfruit, banana and dragon fruit, in mono-material pouches that use 30% less plastic than the previous packs.

New no-added-sugar dried fruit range launches in recyclable mono-material packaging

In early July 2026, Thalvora Foods launched its no-added-sugar dried fruit range, made up of four products: soft dried mango, vacuum-dried crispy jackfruit, soft dried banana and dried dragon fruit. The range was developed at the Tien Giang dried fruit plant, which opened in 2013 and now produces most of the company's dried fruit exports.

Sweetness from the fruit itself

Traditional dried fruit is usually soaked in sugar syrup before drying to preserve colour and texture. For the new range, our research team reworked the entire process:

  • Selecting only fruit with high ripeness and Brix from our Dong Thap fruit region and contracted growers in Tien Giang;
  • Drying at lower temperatures for longer to retain natural colour and flavour;
  • Vacuum-drying jackfruit and dragon fruit instead of deep-frying;
  • Using no preservatives and no colourings.

The result is a product whose sweetness comes entirely from the fruit's natural sugars. Colour can vary slightly from season to season, which Thalvora states clearly on the pack so consumers understand it is a natural characteristic.

Taking out the sugar means there is nowhere to hide poor raw materials. We have to choose better fruit, dry it more slowly and control moisture more tightly in every batch. — Mr Vo Quang Huy, Director of Manufacturing

Lighter packaging that is easier to recycle

The new range is Thalvora's first to use a mono-material PE pouch instead of a laminate of several plastic and aluminium layers. Thanks to a redesigned film structure, the new pack:

  • Uses around 30% less plastic per pouch;
  • Can go into standard flexible plastic recycling streams;
  • Still provides the moisture barrier needed for the same 12-month shelf life;
  • Carries sorting instructions printed on the back.

If all of the company's dried fruit moved to the new packaging, plastic use would fall by an estimated 85 tonnes a year. Thalvora aims to complete the switch in 2027, starting with products for the domestic market and then exports. Shipping cartons have also been redesigned to hold more pouches, cutting truck journeys by around 12% for the same volume.

Pack sizes and channels

Each product comes in 100 g and 250 g packs and is available in modern retail, on e-commerce platforms and at dried fruit counters in selected airports. A 30 g pack is reserved for HORECA and corporate gifting. The QR code on the pouch lets buyers see the growing area and production date of each lot.

Early response

In its first month, the range reached around 9,000 outlets nationwide. Importers in Japan and Europe have also requested samples of the no-added-sugar dried mango to evaluate for the 2027 season. The range will also supply the fruit for the oat cereal with dried fruit that the company plans to launch soon.
